Price of Diagnostic Tests without Energy Audit or Inspection

Energy Inspection

Inspection of home by employee of LaGrange Consulting. Fact sheets provided directly after inspection. Fact sheets show problems found at the home as well as detailed steps on how to solve the problems. Consultant walks homeowner through the problem areas and answers questions. No detailed narrative report provided.

Energy Audit
(Detailed)

Inspection of project by employee of LaGrange Consulting. Notes and photos collected at the site. Detailed narrative report compiled and provided to the customer showing problems found at the home as well as detailed steps on how to solve the problems. This report is very lengthy and specific to the project and may take a couple of weeks to compile.     **Further diagnostic testing may be necessary and/or recommended following the audit.

Blower Door Test

This test uses a large fan installed in an exterior door to measure the amount of air leakage that is pulled into the home through cracks and crevices that often go unnoticed. It can pinpoint places where you are losing conditioned air or pulling in humidity and dust.

Duct Leakage Test  (Duct Blaster)*

This test uses a smaller fan that attaches to the duct system to determine how much leakage or the location of leakage in the duct system of a central HVAC system.

Manual J-load

Heating/Cooling load calculation per ACCA procedures… Calculates the need for conditioned air in each room of the house to overcome the heat and humidity load in each room. It takes into account insulation values, types of windows, heat-producing equipment and infiltration rates.

Air Flow Hood*

This test measures the amount of air flowing out of each vent in the house. It can be used in conjunction with a manual j-load to compare designed airflow to actual air flow.

Infrared Camera

Shows differences in temperature that can indicate moisture or air infiltration or duct leakage within structures that may be inaccessible without tearing away the wall and/or ceiling assemblies.

This is a very lengthy report detailing all of the options available to you and your particular home, based on your plans and planned usage of the home. These options cover energy efficiency, high performance standards, green building techniques, and indoor air quality.

Preparation of Residential and Light Commercial Energy Code Compliance Documentation

Some governing entities require documentation that a planned project meets the Energy Code. By providing us with a set of scaled blueprints and answering questions about the specifications on the project, we can provide you with the proper documentation needed to prove your project complies with the energy codes.

Home Energy Ratings  (HERS) (Includes HERO, Energy Star, Contractor Federal Tax Credits, and Energy Efficient Mortgage certification)

All of these services require a HERS score  (Home Energy Rating System).  Please contact our office for specific procedures required for each program. THESE SERVICES ARE FOR NEW HOMES ONLY.

HERO (Home Energy Rebate Option) certification for existing homes only

This certification is required for customers to receive the HERO rebate from the state. It requires a test-in and test-out preocedure. This includes a specialized energy audit with testing before improvements are made, then recommendations for improvements are made, then a final audit and testing are done to ensure proper installation.
